While YouTube boasts no shortage of acoustic covers of rap and R&B songs, Tiara Thomas sits comfortably on her own level of artistry, far above the levels of her peers. The Indianapolis native is like a beautiful hybrid of fellow newcomer B.O.B. in terms of creativity and originality, the late Lisa LeftEye in terms of flow and approach, and a hint of that clear-but-still-raspy kind of voice Lauryn Hill is known and adored for. Read, see and hear more after the jump.

Probably best known right now for singing the chorus on Wale’s “The Cloud” (off his newest mixtape More About Nothing), Tiara’s slightly gravelly but absolutely soulful voice stood out clear and crisp against both the beat and the backdrop of Wale’s lyrics.

A quick Google-search of her name will bring you to her YouTube page where you can find a decent handful of acoustic songs and covers. But she does more than just cover these songs: most of her “covers” are more like reconstructions; their melodies are usually completely rearranged and the songs almost always contain added original verses.

Ms Thomas is a fresh new talent in an industry that needs nothing more than a good refreshing, and I personally can’t wait to see what’s in store for her next. (Taken from MadInfluence)
