I was listening to “Villain Radio Presents – Indiana” when I first heard Vonnie over Nas’ “New York State Of Mind” instrumental. To put it simply, I was taken aback. I Don’t want to jump the gun on this, because I’ve only chipped the iceberg on Indiana Hiphop…..but this dude is one of the best from our state I’ve heard thus far…..tis a shame his mixtape only got 19 downloads….on Datpiff.com of all places. To show my appreciation, I’v decided to critique Vonnie’s album, “Thinking Out Loud.”

This is a 5 star album. Period. If I had to describe Vonnie, it would be as a hybrid of Nas and Young Buck. How dope is that???? A less boring Nas??? A more lyrical Young Buck????? Say it ain’t so….After listening, you can’t help but wonder why there is no platform for this man to shine yet Souljah Boy made the Forbes list….#hiphopisdead? no, #hiphopisconfused! If you value lyrics, just put the cd on and chill. If you are impatient, read on. Here are the stand out tracks.

EC (East Chicago) State Of Mind showcases Vonnie’s Talent. This is actually the track that made me go searching for this mixtape. You reggae fans will LOVE No Way. If you can’t live without the womp in your truck, throw this in your whip and see how it rides. Dead presidents is the one reason i’m #teammixtapes….classic instrumentals and new lyrics. 2 words. My. GOD. He makes us remember why Jay-Z is even relevant still. Bout My business is just raw and grimey and I love it. Thinking Out Loud is a beautiful representation of hiphop…Thoughtful lyrics over a melodic piano sample, bangin drums, and a thick bassline sample. I LOVE it. Remember the Dope Outkast? Well Vonnie reminded me why I know all the lyrics to Git Up Git Out, while I listened to Shadow In The Shade ….so precise and on point it sounded like he belongs on the original. Damn. Real things is just something to ride to. 5 stars. Listen to it and I dare you to disagree. You won’t not nod, and you can’t dispute the lyrics. Aaaaaaaaaaaand Vonnie breaks down the 10 Mack Commandments over the late great Notorious B.I.G.’s 10 Crack Commandments. Let’s be honest. NOBODY can out do Big on this joint. Nice try tho Vonnie. I give it a 4 out of 5 stars. Vonnie closes this CD out PERFECTLY on City Behind Me. FUCK EVERYBODY! I WAS RAISED ON THAT PAC SHIT! BITCHES! …OK I added the bitches part but it fit….I love this album and i’ll spend money on any album Vonnie ever puts out. You should too.
